Kitchen Options,
Inc. of New England,
known as Kitchen
Options and K.O.N.E.,
was founded by Ray
Lentine. Ray’s
experience with
refacing started
back in 1986, when
he witnessed the
transformation of
his Mother’s
kitchen. His Mother
had several
estimates for a
complete ripout that
were in the mid to
upper teens. Ray’s
brother suggested
looking into
something that none
of the oher Lentines had ever
heard of: Kitchen
Cabinet Refacing.
The estimate came to
just under $6000.
Mrs. Lentine bought.
This was 1986.
She sold her house
and moved to Florida
in 2000. The refaced
kitchen, 14 years
later, looked like
the day it was
installed. The house
was on the market
for just a few days.
Also in 1986 Ray
became The Marketing
and Sales Director
for a National
Franchise called
“Mr. Build.” This
was a franchise that
took existing
contractors and gave
them a name that all
homeowners
recognized. The
premise was ill
conceived. The
franchisor sold a
lot of franchises,
but the contractor
franchisee was still
missing an important
ingredient to make
them successful.
They had a “name,”
but owning a
franchise did not
make them
businessmen/women.
Most of the
franchises lasted
for just a few
years.
The two years
with Mr. Build
introduced Ray to
literally all types
of businesses within
the home
building/home
remodeling industry.
Not only did he
learn the inner
business workings of
everything from
plumbing to
electrical, from
framing a house to
finish carpentry,
from ripping out
kitchens to
installing alarm
systems and not to
mention kitchen
refacing. (Just a
couple months AFTER
his mother had had
her kitchen
refaced.)
Ray stayed with
franchising
(Children’s Orchard
and Matco Tools)
till 1994. It was
then he joined Sears
Home Central and
became the Sales
Manager for Sears
Kitchens for Maine,
New Hampshire, Rhode
Island and
Massachusetts. From
1996 to 2004 his
office averaged just
over 1000 refaced
kitchens per year.
This experience made
Ray one of the
countries most
knowledgeable
kitchen and cabinet
refacing experts.
Things changed
when K-Mart bought
Sears. Ray will not
allow anything
negative to be
written here about a
company that gave
him his beginnings
in a fascinating
business. But
policies changed and
it was time for Ray
to strike out on his
own.
Today the Kitchen
Options Corporation
is one of the
largest kitchen
cabinet refacing
companies in the
Northeast. It’s
headquarters is
located in Oxford,
Massachusetts. Being
that Kitchen Options
is a refacing
company, there are
no showrooms. Our
showroom is your
home. We bring
everything to your
home so you can see
all of the doors and
counter samples in
the light of your
own kitchen.
We have sales
representatives in
Southeastern
Massachusetts to
cover the South
Shore and Cape Cod
and other
Massachusetts sales
reps are in Allston,
Uxbridge (2) and
Danvers. Our Rhode
Island reps are in
Saunderstown and
Warwick. Connecticut
has representatives
in Somers that also
covers Western
Massachusetts. The
Oxford Office, which
is just 6 miles from
the Connecticut
border off Rte 395
and minutes from
Greater Worcester
can send
representatives to
all of Eastern
Connecticut and
Central
Massachusetts.
Kitchen Options
can be seen at all
of the home shows in
Boston, Springfield,
Worcester,
Providence, Hartford
and Hyannis. Almost
all of the larger
country fairs are
attended with a 20’
Kitchen Options
booth. There are a
few home shows in
the fall, but most
take place from late
January through
early April. The
first country fair
of the year (July),
attended by Kitchen
Options, is the
Barnstable County
Fair in Falmouth,
Massachusetts..
There are only a few
Massachusetts fairs,
but eastern and
central Connecticut
has many - the
biggest being
Brooklyn, Woodstock
and Durham. There
are two large fairs
in Rhode Island:
Cumberlandfest and
the Washington
County Fair. There
are many other
events we attend and
this website will
give you our
schedule.
Finally, Ray has
been the host of a
live radio call-in
show since 1990. It
first started on a
small station in
Marlboro, but since
2006 “The Ray
Lentine Show” was
heard on WBIX THE
Business Station in
Boston. Ray and his
wife adopted two
girls and they are
now both 5 years
old. Time with the
family and the
success of Kitchen
Options has, with
some regret, forced
Ray to make a “time”
decision. The show
came out third.
(Actually 4th. Ray
is also a
professional
freshwater bass
fisherman.) Ray’s
show was about the
business of owning a
home. |
